Cognizone @ the SEMIC 2017 Conference in Malta

Cognizone, as an active promoter of semantic interoperability, will participate in the SEMIC 2017 Conference on
Data and Information Management, which will be taking place in Valletta, the capital city of Malta, tomorrow the 14th of June.

The Semantic Interoperability Community (SEMIC) is a European Commission initiative aiming at improving the semantic interoperability of interconnected e-Government systems. It is funded under the Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations (ISA²) Programme.

The ISA2 Programme was put together and adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of European Union in November 2015. This initiative, managed by the DG Informatics of the European Commission (DIGIT), aims at supporting the development of digital solutions enabling public administrations, businesses and citizens in Europe to benefit from interoperable cross-border and cross-sector public services.

SEMIC Conferences

The first SEMIC Conference took place in Brussels in 2011 and has grown to become a regular get-together for policy makers, ICT solution developers, the ICT industry and researchers to discuss topics like data standards, data governance and information exchange.

This year’s 7th edition of the conference is being organised in collaboration with the Malta Information Technology Agency. The reason is that since 2013, SEMIC is held in the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It will bring together presentations on forward-looking data and information management initiatives from European public administrations, from EU institutions and agencies as well as stakeholders from the private sector.

The event will be opened by Emanuel Mallia, Maltese Minister for Competitiveness and Digital, Maritime and Services Economy, and by Gertrud Ingestad, Director General of DG DIGIT.

It will aim at giving the participants the opportunity to learn how leading organisations in Europe are creating value from data and information by:

  • Investing in data and information governance and management activities;
  • Rethinking information retrieval and delivery within and beyond organisational boundaries;
  • Sharing information and collaborating;
  • Using data and information to improve decision-making.
